Crazy Man On The Streets
Hey everyone!!
This week was honestly a really good week!!
I went on exchanges and it was such a good experience! So I went to Tamworth and I was with Sister Johnson. We went and knocked on some doors, and some people were so funny. We would explain who we were and they would just awkwardly close the door. But that's the first time I went and knocked on doors, so that was a really good experience! We exchanged Tuesday night, and I was supposed to go back Wednesday night. But Sis. Johnson is an stl, and the stls get a car. So we went to pick up some food that someone made us, and we started to drive away and we realized that we had a very flat tire... so we pulled over and changed it which took a couple of hours because the tire wasn't coming off. I think the best part of it all was that I was wearing a white dress, and a white coat. Both of those ended up very dirty. While I was pulling one of the lugnuts off I accidentally pulled the car off the jack. Oops. Both of our hands were so cold so the thought of having to go through the entire process of propping the car again killed us. Luckily around 7:30 we got the spare put on and were back in the flat thanks to some friends that helped us get the tire off. But we couldn't go above 50 mph, and we couldn't travel very far so I was stuck on Tamworth for another night. But it's okay because their flat is sooooo nice. Anyways, the exchanges were really awesome. I was pretty nervous for them, but yeah it was good.
I made a new friend this week as well! On Christmas eve we went to deliver a card to a friend, and we figured while we were out we would go and visit a couple of other friends. But then we realized the time and so we decided to head back because we had to meet at the chapel to go caroling. We missed our bus which was annoying, but another one was coming soon. But I was standing at the bus stop, and one guy just kinda made an awkward eye contact with me. So we got talking and I ended up just teaching him the restoration on the street. We have been in contact though and it seems like he is pretty interested in the church.
We made another friend who doesn't speak a lot of English (he and his friend speak farsi). They came to church yesterday and we kinda talked with them, but we found out someone in our ward speaks farsi which is a huge miracle. We are meeting with them on Friday, and hopefully that all goes well.
On Christmas eve Erin took us to go get McDonald's so that was yummy, but the hot chocolate isn't the same here as it is in the states. Then we went over later in the evening, and she made us a Christmas eve dinner and also some drinks. I don't remember what it was called but it's a nonalcoholic whiskey. It was quite tasty actually.
Yesterday while we were walking to church, a guy stopped us on the street and he was kind of a funky looking man. He yells at us happy boxing day, so we just told him have a good boxing day. Then he asked if we were street preachers, and we told him that we were missionaries. He asked us if we wanted drinks because he just bought them. Then he informed us that he is supposed to be in prison right now. My heart literally stopped. He shows us his prison card and says "see I'm supposed to be in prison right now, but I'm just enjoying the holidays!" Apparently here you have a day release where they will let you out of prison from like 9-6. I think that sounds pretty sketchy if you ask me. But I guess it's what they do. Anyways we told him that we just have to get to church and he told us even more. He goes "there's men here everywhere that will come and abuse pretty girls like yourselves. So I'm a hit man and I get paid to go kill those men"... and we just walked away slowly. So that was interesting. Then we kept walking and saw the police. The crazy man walked up to the police car as they were coming out of the round and started talking with them. He's crazy. But hopefully he had a fun time on day release. Don't know how he got it. Maybe he didn't and he actually escaped prison. Lol I have no idea but yeah that was really interesting.
Not really sure what else happened this week, but it felt like it was a really good week, and we found some new people to teach which is always good.
I hope you all had a good Christmas and have a fun new year!!
